A Study in the Book of Philippians
Topic: The Power in the Name of Jesus
Bible Text: Philippians 2:8-11
Introduction: As we yearn like Paul, seeking to know more about Jesus, discovering the power in the name of Jesus is the best thing to attain, for His name rules over all powers.
How Jesus Got the Power in His Name
- The name inherited all of God’s power, as in Heb 1:4. In the original Bible language, Aramaic, it is Ha-shem, which is the title of God, meaning “The Name.”
- A reward of Jesus’ obedience, God encapsulated all his power into that name. Philippians 2:9
- The creator of heaven and earth subdued everything under His name. Philippians 2:10
The believers use of the name Jesus includes mentioning his name, but it is not limited to that; it connotes using the authority of the person of Jesus and presenting his title under circumstances and before anybody.
The sphere of Reign of Jesus’ Name
- Every power granted has territorial validity and boundaries of influence.
- The dominion God granted to man in the garden of Eden. This is for the supremacy of man on other creatures on earth. Genesis 1:28 (Amp).
- The domains of the name Jesus. This cuts across earth, heaven, and realms of powers of darkness. Philippians 2:10, Luke 16:17-18
Superiority of the Name of Jesus
- It is the most excellent name, better in the sight of the Most High than any sacrifice. Heb1:4
- The only name given to save man. The power of that name is superior to any power. Acts 4:12
- The name that all powers, circumstances, and authorities must submit to Philippians 2:9. Believers are encouraged to hallow this name . Matthew 6:9, Exodus 20:7
Authority of Believers to use the
- The right and authority of a believer in that name is likened to a legal right or power of attorney. Mark 16:17-18
- The authority a believer has is the same power the name carries. John 14:13-14, 16:23-24
- The source of an authority determines the extent to which it can be enforced. 1 John 4:4. Philippians 4:13
Jesus did so much with his power; he encapsulated his power in his name for us to continue
to do all he did in the world.
